Potential for Use of Iron Mining Tailings Calcined in a Flash Furnace as Pozzolanic Material

This paper presents a study of the potential use iron mining tailings as artificial pozzolan (metakaolin) after their submission to thermal treatment via calcination in flash furnace. The research consists characterization before and calcination, chemical, mineralogical, thermogravimetric, mechanical strength analyses were conducted. results compared with those for commonly used pozzolans, metakaolin, similarities identified. morphology particles was conducted through images obtained by scanning electronic microscope. pozzolanic activity fine calcined technology evaluated uniaxial compression trials, which showed excellent results.
